What is Cenforce?
Cenforce is a prescription drug. It comes in the form of a tablet and suspension (liquid). Both are taken by mouth. It also comes in an intravenous (IV) form, which is only given by a doctor. Cenforce oral tablet is available as the brand-name drugs Viagra and Revatio. It’s also available as a generic drug. Generic drugs usually cost less than the brand-name version. In some cases, they may not be available in every strength or form as the brand-name drug.

Why it’s used

Cenforce oral tablet is used to treat ED and PAH. Generic oral tablets are available for both conditions, but the brand-name drugs each treat only one of the conditions.
  • Viagra: This drug is used to treat ED. With ED, you’re unable to get or maintain an erection.
  • Revatio: This drug is used to treat PAH. With PAH, the blood pressure in your lungs is too high. Your heart has to work very hard to pump blood into your lungs.

How it works

Cenforce belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. A class of drugs is a group of medications that work in a similar way. These drugs are often used to treat similar conditions. Cenforce works in different ways, depending on the condition it’s being used to treat.
  • For ED: Cenforce works by increasing blood flow to the penis. This helps you get or maintain an erection. Cenforce only works for ED if you’re sexually aroused.
  • For PAH: Cenforce works by relaxing the muscles and opening up the blood vessels in your lungs. This decreases the blood pressure in your lungs. Cenforce slows down the progression of your illness. It also makes you more able to exercise.

How Cenforce is used

How long before sex should I use Cenforce?

Cenforce can be used as early as 4 hours before sex and as late as 30 minutes before sex. However, it is recommended to use this drug within an hour before sex.

Should I take Cenforce with food?

Cenforce can be taken with food or without food. It is important to note that certain foods, particularly foods high in fat, can cause the drug to work more slowly than normal.

Warnings for other groups

For pregnant women: Research in animals has not shown a risk to the fetus when the mother takes the drug. However, there aren’t enough studies done in humans using the drug for PAH to show if the drug poses a risk to the fetus. Talk with your doctor if you’re pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It appears unlikely that this drug will harm a pregnancy. However, this drug should only be used during pregnancy if clearly needed. Viagra or generic Cenforce for ED should not be used in women. For women who are breastfeeding: When used for PAH, Cenforce may pass into breast milk and may cause side effects in a child who is breastfed. Talk with your doctor if you breastfeed your child. You may need to decide whether to stop breastfeeding or stop taking this medication. Viagra or generic Cenforce for ED should not be used in women. For seniors: The kidneys, liver, or heart of older adults may not work as well as they used to. This can cause your body to process drugs more slowly. As a result, a higher amount of a drug stays in your body for a longer time. This raises your risk for side effects. For children: This drug isn’t recommended in children younger than 18 years. In one study, children with PAH who took this drug had an increased chance for death.

If you completely miss a dose and it’s time for the next dose, skip the one you missed. Are there any safety measures I should take before using this drug? Like most medications, there are precautions you should take before using this drug. Make sure you talk with your doctor about:
  • any medication allergies you may have
  • any other drugs, medications, herbs, or supplements you take or plan to take
  • any medical conditions or surgeries you have or plan to have

Are there any alternatives?
There are other drugs available to treat your condition. Some may be better suited for you than others. Talk with your doctor about other drug options that may work for you.

Cenforce vs. tadalafil

Cenforce and tadalafil are alike because they both can treat ED and PAH. However, tadalafil has a few distinctions from Cenforce. Tadalafil is the generic name for the erectile dysfunction drug Cialis. There are two versions of the drug:
  • a daily dosage version
  • a version that can be taken as needed
Cialis 5-mg daily dosing is the only PDE5 inhibitor dose approved for treating an enlarged prostate; improving ED symptoms is an added benefit of the daily dose. Because of the “as needed” version of tadalafil, some users may find this option more convenient. Also, tadalafil tends to:
  • work faster
  • not be affected by food
  • last longer
The downside, however, is that side effects tend to last longer too.

What’s the difference between Cenforce and Viagra?

The main difference between generic Cenforce and Viagra is marketing. The main ingredient in Viagra is Cenforce, meaning that the drugs are essentially the same. However, Viagra is marketed and prescribed strictly for erectile dysfunction, while generic Cenforce can be prescribed for PAH as well. Viagra is also known as “the little blue pill” because of its blue color, while generic Cenforce tends to be a white color.
